School board talks about park upgrades

    Discussion has begun between the Steelville School District and the city of Steelville on potential upgrades to the city park. The school district currently leases the inner circle at the park, which includes ballfields and the track, and Steelville Schools Superintendent Mike Whittaker reported at the school board meeting on December 17 that he had met with aldermen Duane DeRennaux and Tamra Cape to talk about improvements to the park.

Candidate filing has been slow

    Filing opened on December 15 for those interested in serving on local boards in the community, but only three people have filed as candidates so far.

SFPD hosts boot giveaway

On Saturday, December 12, volunteers with the Steelville Fire Protection District opened the Steelville fire station to offer free, gently-used cold weather boots and winter gloves to the public, along with smoke detectors.

Golden Echoes Resale Shop closes after 46 years

    Following the sale of the building that housed the store, the Golden Echoes Resale Shop has closed its doors. The shop had been located on Main Street in Steelville for 46 years.

Breeden receives Missouri Senior Service Award

    Steelville’s Connie Breeden is just one of 15 recipients for the 2020 Missouri Lieutenant Governor Senior Service Award. This award is intended to promote and highlight the positive accomplishments Missouri’s senior citizens provide their local communities. To receive this award, individuals should be at least 60 years of age and volunteer a minimum of 25 hours per year.
