In honor of the company’s 50th anniversary, Wallis Companies is donating $150,000 to the three school districts in Crawford County. On December 28, Company President Lynn Wallis made one of three $50,000 donations to the Steelville School District to be used for educational enrichment for students at all grade levels.

What started as a review of testing results for Steelville School District students led to a board conversation about what is truly important for children to learn. Board members and school administrators agreed that assessments are necessary and learning is essential, but they expressed frustration with the state’s mandated testing requirements and the fact that bureaucrats continually change them.
Several local boards are seeking candidates for positions that will open in the spring. Seats will be available for those interested in serving on the Steelville School Board, the Crawford County E-911 Board, the Steelville Ambulance District Board, the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board, or as an alderman for the City of Steelville.
