The Steelville School District reported a dramatic decrease in COVID-19 numbers as of December 7. According to information posted on the district website, on December 7, there was only one positive case in the district (a student), and just 15 total people quarantined (one staff member and 14 students).

SHS basketball spectator guidelines
Steelville High School has released guidelines for attendance at home basketball games for the winter season to address the need to promote health and safety for school patrons.

Steelville mourns loss of public servant
The Steelville community lost a kindhearted man at the end of November—one who had dedicated his life to public service, both in the emergency sector and for his town. Michael “Tiny” Keen had served as a paramedic, a firefighter, a police officer, and a board member for 911. He was also an alderman and the mayor of the city of Steelville.
Candidate filing opens next week
During the 2020 April election, voters will choose aldermen for the city of Steelville, along with board members for the local school district, 911, the ambulance district, and the Salem hospital board. Those interested in serving in any of these roles may declare their candidacy beginning on Tuesday, December 15.
