Following the April Municipal Election, new office holders and appointees were sworn into office at the April 18 Steelville City Council meeting. Mayor Terry Beckham was reelected to his office and had a list of appointments to make as the mayor has done for a number of years, however, Alderman Bill Bennett questioned his appointment of city clerk.
At their April 4 meeting, Steelville city council members heard about several ongoing projects and supported plans for a new business and closure of a city street for a vintage market on April 30.
Steven Vetter of the Steelville R-3 School District has received certification as a School Safety Specialist. Vetter, who is also the high school principal, participated in the recent School Safety Academy sponsored by the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s Center for Education Safety.
A Steelville resident approached the city council at their April 4 meeting with a concern about undesirable people living on Keysville Street. While council members seemed unaware of city regulations about living without utilities, Police Chief Mike Sherman explained that was not allowed and his department would address the issue.
