The annual Running the Rails on Route 66 is back on schedule for 2021. The race was delayed until late October last year due to the pandemic, but this year the event is back on its normal spring schedule and is set for March 20.
The city of Cuba officially announced Monday that city hall will be reopening for public business on April 5. Mayor Cody Leathers had informed the council about the plan during last week’s first March meeting.
February’s severe winter weather could eat into the pocketbooks of the city of Cuba’s utility customers for the next two years, according to information released by the city. The city is facing a huge bill from its suppliers after electric rates spiked by as much as 1,600 percent, but payment for increased costs will be spread out over the next two years.
Cuba City Council met on March 2 and approved a request presented by Superintendent Jon Earnhart to widen Old Cuba Road, located behind the school. Earnhart had previously met with both Public Works Director Craig Bouse and Police Chief Doug Shelton to discuss solutions for the traffic backing up onto Highway 19 during drop off times.
The Cuba and Bourbon school districts have announced dates for their annual kindergarten screenings.
