Board approves change orders, hears construction update

    The St. James Board of Education approved the third and fourth change orders of the ongoing construction projects on Thursday, March 19. Architect Brandon Dake, of Dake Wells Architecture, and Sean Thouvenot, of BRANCO Enterprises, also presented a construction update on the current projects.

    Superintendent Dr. Merlyn Johnson spoke to the St. James Board of Education about future budget planning, as the district is facing rising healthcare costs, potential cuts to Walmart Foundation money, and teacher’s salaries rising in the coming years.

City to forgo utility shut offs this month

    The city of St. James has opted to forgo utility shut offs this month due to threat of coronavirus to help those affected by this pandemic. City officials held a Facebook Live meeting on Friday, March 20, to update the public about how the pandemic will affect citizens in the coming weeks.

Library offering curbside service during shutdown

    The James Memorial Public Library closed on Thursday, March 19, as part of efforts to slow the COVID-19 virus and to ensure the safety of patrons of the facility. Plans are to reevaluate the length of the shutdown on April 6, but books will still be offered to the community through curbside service for patrons.
