The city of St. James is moving forward with establishing a new tree nursery, although the proposed site could be changed. Originally, the plan was to create the nursery, which will allow the city to have a way to easily replace dead or dying trees, at the middle school. That location has changed, however, to the head of the Iron Works Bike Trail.

John F. Hodge High School had 10 students selected to the All-District Band this year after auditions were held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Sean Thouvenot, of Branco Enterprises, and Brandon Dake, of Dake Wells Architecture, spoke to the St. James Board of Education on Thursday, outlining how close construction at the high school is to completion. While there are still some safety issues which must be addressed prior to the district taking over newly renovated classrooms, the board heard work could be completed by the end of January.
During its meeting last week, the St. James Board of Education was presented with an update on roof leaks, provided by Building Supervisor Wes DeLuca. Last month, DeLuca informed the board of the long-term problem of leaks, primarily at the elementary and high schools, and the board asked him to get estimates of how much repairs could cost.
St. James Board of Education President Carl Behr announced his resignation last week, saying he was moving outside the district. The board will be accepting applications from interested parties who would like to be nominated to fill the partial term.
