Opioid awareness walk is Saturday

            Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) will once again be holding an opioid awareness walk this Saturday, with participants walking from the Missouri Veterans Home-St. James to the St. James High School and back again. The walk is being used to highlight the difficulties of those fighting addiction.

Plans moving forward for an all-inclusive playground

            Members of the Friends of the Park are continuing to move forward with plans to create an all-inclusive playground somewhere in St. James. The volunteer group has eyed St. James Park as the most appealing area and is working with city officials to finalize an agreement to begin the process.

GFF tickets on sale now

   The annual Grape & Fall Festival is quickly approaching and tickets are on sale now at the St. James Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Information Center. This year’s theme is “Stompin’ Good Time” and will provide a wide variety of activities for the community to enjoy. Sponsored by the St. James Chamber of Commerce, this year’s Grape & Fall Festival will run from September 7 through September 10.

Council approves setting tax levy

            On August 8, the St. James City Council approved fixing the rate to be levied for tax purposes, in accordance with guidance from the state. City Administrator Jim Fleming said the change is minor, but required by the city.

Hog sold at county fair raises over $10,000 for seller injured in UTV accident

            A hog sold at the Phelps County Fair livestock sale on Saturday raised over $10,000 for a local girl injured in a summer UTV accident. Libby Fuhring donated her market hog to help with her friend Madison Giesler’s medical expenses.
