Jason Smith, Congressman of Missouri’s 8th Congressional District, visited the St. James Winery and Public House Brewing Company on Friday, August 14 as part of his Focus on Agriculture tour. Smith met with Winery CEO Peter Hofherr and Public House co-owner Josh Stacy, who talked about how COVID-19 has affected their businesses.

The St. James Schools Nutrition department will be providing meals for students attending virtually or via Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) beginning the first day of school. Families need to register for meals this week to begin receiving meals next week, when school opens for the fall semester.
Last month, the James Memorial Library was provided $6,942 in coronavirus relief funding, which has helped the facility to purchase new Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots for checkout. Funding was provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) and users of the facility will now have additional options in connecting to the internet.
The St. James School District announced on Friday the John F. Hodge High School will begin the year using Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) due to roofs needing repaired on campus. No time frame was provided on when in-person learning could resume as the district takes steps to repair the issues.
The City of St. James has contracted with Phelps County Animal Rescue to take over animal control for the city. On Monday, August 10, the St. James City Council met to review and approve the contract as well as discuss several other business topics.
