The St. James Board of Education approved the budget for fiscal year 2022-23 during its June 22 meeting. The new budget includes salary increases, continuation of a 1:1 technology initiative, ventilation and air quality improvements, and ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) spending for ongoing district improvement projects.

Mayor Rick Krawiecki signed a proclamation recognizing June 16-23 as National Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) week. On June 16 he also celebrated the contributions of CNAs working at the St. James Living Center for their efforts in the community.
Work on Lift Station #2 has been completed, with the city finishing the last punch list items and installing new fencing at the facility. Public Works Director Lyle Thomas said the facility is now much safer for workers and will serve the 20 to 30 homes in the area for years to come.
St. James resident Jennie Chatman spent April and May raising donations for the Rolla Russell House, delivering a truckload of items to the facility on June 9. Chatman held several Linen and Things drives throughout St. James and Rolla, calling on businesses and individuals to give to the cause, with great success.
Bridges on Jay Street and St. John’s Avenue are having new decking poured this month to address safety concerns. Both bridges have been closed for several months due to being deemed unsafe and work has begun to make them drivable once again.
