Due to manpower issues, St. James has struggled to maintain recycling pickups and City Administrator Jim Fleming said the city is working to better communicate with customers. When the Sanitation Department is not operating at full strength, he said, it sometimes causes delays and customers who participate in the program do not get their recycling picked up.

During the regular June meeting of the St. James City Council, Public Works Director Lyle Thomas informed the council the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be paving highway 8/68 through St. James next year and the city could have some downtown paving done through the process.
The St. James Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applicants for the annual Grape and Fall Festival queen pageant. This year’s pageant will be held on Saturday, August 27 and the deadline to apply is June 30.
The Family Dollar/Dollar Tree is official open at 125 Sydney Street. The facility will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day and a grand opening will be held on June 18.
Business owners and employees should commit themselves to a 10 n 2 plan. Take 10 minutes every two weeks and remove any trash or weeds that customers might be able to see while going in or out of the business.
