Council approves funding SRO

    The St. James City Council approved a budget amendment to fund one School Resource Officer (SRO) to assist the St. James School District. For the past several months, the SRO position has been discussed after being eliminated in this year’s budget due to projected lower sales tax dollars due to COVID-19, but the city approved making the amendment believing it is good for both the city and students.

City contracts to have tennis courts repaired

    The city of St. James has approved a contract with Gerald Perry Tennis Company to repair an old tennis court in the city park. The agreement will include repairing a large crack, resurfacing, coating, and striping the court.

Water and natural gas rates to be increased

    The St. James Municipal Utility Board and St. James City Council met in a joint session Monday night to discuss utility rate increases. The city currently has a deadline to make improvements to the water and wastewater system required by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Chamber gun raffle tickets still on sale

    Those interested in entering a gun raffle only have a short time left to enter. The St. James Chamber of Commerce will hold the raffle drawing for a Henry “Goldenboy” H004 .22 caliber long rifle on Saturday, August 29, during the FFA/4-H Livestock show and sale.
