Marlatt is new Newburg girls’ basketball head coach

    Newburg High School was a great springboard for the head coaching career of St. James High School girls’ basketball coach Terry Wells. Now one of Wells’ former standout Lady Tigers is following in his footsteps to the school.

School building project moving forward despite high bids

    The St. James Board of Education met on June 10 to review bids received on the building projects currently ongoing, opting to move forward with the project despite higher than expected bids. The district has been working with Dake Wells Architecture and construction manager Branco to lower costs to within the budget the district had, but have been unsuccessful so far.

Storm water improvement project moving forward

    The city of St. James is moving forward with a major storm-water project that will completely rework how water flows from Meramec Street into the city park. Work has been ongoing throughout June and will completely alter how rain water travels to Lake Scioto.

Council approves rezoning request

    The St. James City Council met on June 10. During the meeting, the council:
    • Held a public hearing on the proposed Hopkins rezoning with no comments and approved an ordinance to rezone the property in the Union Heights Subdivision from R-1 (residential) to B-2 (central business district).

City completes paving of hiking trail

    The city of St. James has completed paving both entrances of the Forest City Trail, a hiking and biking path that travels from the Industrial Park entrance to Great Circle. A grant from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was awarded to the city to complete the project at the end of last year and the city has been waiting on good weather to finish the work.
