MRPC to host Black Balloon Day events in Rolla, Cuba on March 5

    The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) through the Opioid Affected Youth Initiative (OAYI) is hosting two Black Balloon Day events at Stonehenge, University of Missouri S&T in Rolla and Peoples Bank in Cuba from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on March 5. MRPC chose to move its celebrations to March 5 due location availability in our region.

Absentee ballots available for April election

    Absentee ballots for the April 6 general election are now available in the Phelps County Clerk’s office or via the county website. The deadline to vote absentee is Monday, April 5 at 5 p.m.

Federal priorities discussed at February MRPC board meeting

    Donna Hickman and Brett Hoffman with Rep. Jason Smith’s office and Hannah Larrick and Aris Loukis with Sen. Roy Blunt’s office, Ray Bozarth and Matt Bain with Sen. Josh Hawley’s office and Rachel Gilroy with Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s office met with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) board via Zoom to discuss federal legislative priorities as set forth by the MRPC board at its Feb. 11 meeting.

Active COVID-19 cases remain steady while vaccination numbers rise

    The number of active COVID-19 cases remain steady as more residents get vaccinated in Phelps County. While the Phelps-Maries County Health Department reported it has still not received any COVID-19 vaccine, Phelps Health has been administering vaccinations and a second dose vaccination event was held on Friday, aided by the Missouri National Guard.

Missouri S&T students create digital story map to trace Trail of Tears journey through Missouri

    Missouri University of Science and Technology students—including ones from Bourbon, Cuba, St. James and Steelville—created a digital exhibit to tell the story of how thousands of Native Americans travelled through Missouri nearly 200 years ago on a forced march westward that became known as the “Trail of Tears.”
