Extension Banquet asks, ‘What Does Missouri Sound Like?’

The Extension Council of Phelps County invites everyone to the February 20th, ‘Council to Community Banquet’ featuring sociolinguist, Matt Gordon. Missouri speech patterns have changed over generations due in part to vowel shift, when one vowel is pronounced with the same sound as another vowel. An example is ‘Sorry’ pronounced with an ahh vowel sound instead of an orr sound, ‘SAH-RY’ instead of ‘SORE-Y’. Vowel shifts are found all through Missouri, as University of Missouri Professor Matt Gordon has found in his research.

Troop I and Rolla PD taking plunge to benefit Special Olympics

The MO State Highway Patrol – Troop I and Rolla PD are dispatching a call from hibernation for all Polar Bears!  The 6th Annual Polar Plunge and 3rd  Annual Polar Bear Strut (5K) will be held on March 2, 2019.
