Cuba, Bourbon and Crawford County unofficial April 7 election results were used to report the following outcomes.
In Cuba, there were seven seats open for the municipal elections.
Pitts Lesesne was elected as the mayor of Cuba with 311 votes against incumbent Kevin Copling with 263 votes.
Two candidates ran for Alderman Ward 1 (one-year term): incumbent Ray Mortimeyer and Dan Eidson. Mortimeyer won with 92 votes over Eidson, who had 76 votes.
Incumbent Harold Halbert and Louis Alan Raineri ran for Cuba Alderman Ward 1 (two-year term). Raineri received 98 votes and was elected over Halbert, who had 66 votes.
Jeremy Rosemann was elected as Alderman Ward 2 (two-year term) with 141 votes over incumbent Richard Hewkin, who received 83 votes.
Marshal Doug Shelton and City Collector Kim Roedemeier ran unopposed to retain their seats.
Three candidates filed for Alderman Ward 3 (two-year term), including Chris Newcom, incumbent Joyce Hartzell and Ciara Kitchen. Hartzell won with 58 votes, while Newcom received 57 votes and Kitchen had 52 votes.
Cuba R-2 Board of Education had Jennifer Moreland, Renee White and Tammi Palmer file for three seats.
Cuba R-2 School District also had a proposed no-tax-increase bond issue on the ballot that, if passed, would go toward projects that would repair, renovate or improve the school district. The bond, which needed a four-sevenths majority, passed with 666 yes votes and 409 no votes.
Bourbon had two running for mayor. Sky Huddleston won with 115 votes, while Johnny Nelson received 67 votes.
Alderman Ward 1 incumbent James Naquin and Alderman Ward 2 incumbent Mary D. Heywood ran unopposed for their seats.
Bourbon R-1 Board of Education had three open seats, and three declared candidates, including Ryan Cole, Sean Kaysinger and Stephen Waldron.
Bourbon R-1 School District had a no-tax-increase school bond on the ballot, which, if passed, would go towards improvement, renovation and repair projects in the school district. The bond passed with 441 yes votes and 171 no votes.
At the county level, a majority vote declined to approve a countywide use tax with 1,909 no votes to 760 yes votes. This tax would have been placed on all out-of-state online purchases made within the county, and the rate would have been the same as the current local sales tax rate.
Current sales tax only applies to purchases made at brick-and-mortar businesses, but the proposed use tax would have extended it to online purchases, with the exclusion of items like medicine, insulin or oxygen and small sellers like Etsy.
Revenue generated from the use tax would have been split three ways, with 60 percent divided among the two road districts, 20 percent to employee benefits and 20 percent to maintain county buildings.
Crawford County also had SB3 on the ballot. It passed with 1,555 yes votes and 1,061 no votes. The bill allows the county to limit property tax increases for qualifying homeowners on their primary residence, freezing it at the qualifying year’s amount, protecting them from future increases.
