Be prepared

Some points to ponder to prepare for the 2026 elections:

Nearly three-quarters of Americans feel that Donald Trump is doing a poor job dealing with inflation, according to a May 17 CBS News/YouGov poll. And more than three-quarters of Americans say that inflation under Trump is outpacing their income. Don’t forget that keys to this inflation are Trump’s tariffs and his war with Iran.

Trump has just created a $1.8 billion fund (yes, that’s a “b”) of our tax money to serve essentially as a political slush fund that arguably could go to criminals convicted by juries and judges but pardoned by Trump, including Trump cronies and the January 6, 2021, criminals who attacked the Capital and the responding police.

Trump publicly lied about funding for any new White House ballroom. Last October, per Newsweek, he claimed the ballroom would be “paid for 100 percent by me and some friends of mine, donors. The government is paying absolutely nothing.” Now, Congressional Republicans shamelessly vying for Trump’s favor are trying to inject $1 billion (again, that’s a “b”) of our tax money for Trump’s ballroom into a funding bill.

Republicans, who hold majorities in both houses of Congress, have had nearly a year and a half to rein in Trump’s worst inclinations and vanity projects, but they have done nothing. We would all benefit by voting out these cowardly officials in this year’s elections.
