Bourbon baseball loses close game to Valley

Mother nature hasn’t been kind to Bourbon High School’s baseball team this season. The inclement weather in the area rained out the Warhawk’s scheduled April 27 game versus Cuba and their April 29 matchup against New Haven. That was the fifth time this season a Bourbon baseball game has been rained out.

Bourbon did play on April 30 in Valley and lost a close matchup to go to 1-8 on the season.

Weather permitting, The Warhawks will have a busy upcoming week. The Warhawks were scheduled to host Grandview (Hillsboro) on May 4 before playing in Farmington against St. Paul Lutheran on May 6 and in Viburnum on May 7.

Bourbon’s game against Cuba has been rescheduled for April 8 and will be the Warhawk’s senior day, where seniors Ian Mueller and Chase Perschbacher will be honored before the game.

April 30 vs. Valley

The Warhawks found themselves in their closest contest of the season against the Valley Vikings. The Vikings struck first and went up 4-0 heading into the fifth inning.

Bourbon responded with a two-run single from sophomore Garrett Wallis that scored Anson Hormann and Chase Perschbacher to cut the deficit in half. But Valley bore down and the score stayed at 4-2 as the game concluded.

Anson Hormann started on the mound for Bourbon and hurled 57 pitches before head coach Danny Payne went to Mueller in relief, who threw 63 pitches and finished the game. Hormann led the Warhawks with three hits at the plate out of the five-hole in the batting order.
