Bourbon baseball splits week, enters home stretch of fall season

The Bourbon High School baseball team began its week by traveling to Stoutland on Sept. 22 to take on the Tigers. The Warhawks loaded the bases in the first inning but were unable to score. That was the best chance for Bourbon to score, as the Warhawks were blanked 13-0 in five innings to take the loss.

The Warhawks returned home on Sept. 25 and hosted the Kingston Cougars. Bourbon got out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings. The Cougars responded with a three-run third inning to make it a 4-3 game. With two outs in the bottom of the third, Warhawk starting shortstop Anson Hormann lined a single down the left field line that scored two runs to give Bourbon a 6-3 lead. Warhawk starting pitcher Ian Mueller settled in and finished his day on the mound with 10 strikeouts in five innings.

Bourbon added one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth inning to balloon its lead to 9-3. Hormann came on in relief of Mueller and threw two shutout innings, striking out five to seal the victory for the Warhawks.

Bourbon then traveled to Kingston on Sept. 29 and Steelville on Sept. 30 which will be detailed in next week’s paper. The Warhawks will play their last regular season home game of the fall on Oct. 2 when Richland comes to town.
