Bourbon Economic Development Group Scales Up for 2026: New Center on the Horizon

Posted

What started with a few decorative barrels and a vision for growth has evolved into a powerhouse of local progress. The Bourbon Economic Development Group (BEDG) entered 2026 with more than just momentum; they’ve brought a significant expansion in leadership and a transformative new goal to the table.

Now led by a dedicated seven-member board and supported by a growing force of approximately 70 members, the BEDG has officially transitioned from a promotional committee into a major community developer. The group’s primary focus for the year is the capital campaign for their most ambitious project to date: a permanent Bourbon Business/Community Development Center.

While the group’s famous Bourbon Barrels remain a staple of local tourism—with more than 5,000 rack cards distributed across Missouri Tourist Information Centers—the BEDG is now looking to provide a physical home for that same spirit of innovation.

The proposed Business/Community Development Center is designed to be a multi-use hub, offering:

• Professional Training: Expanding on their history of hosting local business workshops.

• Networking Space: A permanent home for the business meetings of the BED Group and other community organizations.

• Industrial Support: A centralized office to manage the ongoing development of the local industrial park, existing retail businesses, and future additions to both sectors.

The group isn't letting their construction goals slow down their traditional community favorites. The 2026 calendar remains packed with the events that put Bourbon on the map. The annual Bourbon BBQ Festival is set for June 13, followed by the Annual Car Show on September 19.

"With 70 members now behind us, our capacity to serve this city has never been higher," a board representative stated. "The new center will ensure that Bourbon isn't just a place people visit for the barrels, but a place where new businesses can actually take root and thrive."

BEDG continues to hold regular business meetings at the donated space in the Bourbon American Legion Hall located on College Street behind the US Post Office.
