Bourbon High School’s golf team traveled to Jackson on May 11 to compete in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament at Bent Creek Golf Course.
Eighteen schools competed in the meet and the top two teams and the best 15 individual scoring golfers not on the top-two teams advanced to the Class 2 State Tournament. Nearly 100 golfers each played 18 holes throughout the busy afternoon of competition.
St. Vincent and Festus claimed the top two spots as a team and Bourbon didn’t place as a team. St. Vincent golfers Samuel Koishor and Brecken Reiss each shot a 78 to tie for the first place individual score.
Bourbon sophomore Emmett Jones just narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet. Jones shot a 93, finishing in 22nd place which was one shot shy of tying Twin Rivers senior Eli Thurman for 21st and a potential opportunity in state competition. Warhawk sophomore Dawson King placed 63rd after shooting 115 and freshman Trevor Roberstson finished in 79th after shooting a 150.
Warhawk senior dual-sport athletes Ian Mueller and Chase Perschbacher didn’t participate in the meet, nor did fellow baseball player, sophomore Garrett Wallis.
Bourbon will bring back Jones, King and Robertson to next year’s team under the guidance of head coach Marcus Bailey and will hope that potential athletes in the rising eighth-grade class and other Warhawk athletes will join them for next season.
