The Bourbon High School volleyball team started its week on a high note on Sept. 23 against Grandview.

On red, white and blue night, the Lady Warhawks defeated Grandview in straight sets 25-13, 25-20 and 27-25 to get the victory. Bourbon head coach Kelli Bailey expressed her appreciation for the supportive home crowd.

“We can't tell you how much we appreciate all the support from everyone,” Bailey said. “The enthusiasm carried the momentum to fight through for the wins.”

The Lady Warhawks JV team lost its first set 17-25 but bounced back to win the second and third sets 25-16 and 25-20 to make it a winning night for both Bourbon teams.

The Lady Warhawks then traveled to Steelville on Sept. 25 to take on the Cardinals in a Gasconade Valley Conference matchup. Bourbon battled Steelville throughout in an intense five-set match that resembled post-season competition.

The Warhawks won 32-30 in a strenuous back-and forth first set. Steelville took the second set 25-22, before Bourbon bounced back to win 25-20 in the third set. The Cardinals then used the energy from its home crowd to win a tense fourth set 26-24. The Warhawks then fell 15-12 in the final set to lose the match.

Bourbon didn’t let the loss affect them when they traveled to St. Louis on Sept. 27 to compete in the Principia Round Robin Tournament. The Lady Warhawks split sets against Principia before winning both sets against Valley Park, McCluer North and Believe Academy Charter School to advance to the championship round. Bourbon then took two out of three against Principia to win the tournament and enjoy the drive back on Interstate 44 with a trophy in hand.
