Bourbon High School’s baseball team defeated Kingston Sept. 28 at home to move to 4-0 on the fall season. The Warhawks’ scheduled Oct. 1 game in Richland was canceled due to inclement weather in the area.
Bourbon hosted Bismarck Oct. 5 for its last home game of the fall season, which will be detailed in next week’s edition. The Blue and White are scheduled to play in Viburnum Sept. 7 before wrapping up its season Sept. 8 in Steelville.
Sept. 28 vs. Kingston
The Warhawks welcomed the Kingston Cougars to town in a rematch of the two teams, who played four days prior in Kingston. Bourbon won 11-1 in the first matchup and the results were similar in the second go around.
The Warhawks once again used strong pitching to hold the Cougars to one run and showed patience at the plate while adding timely hitting to score seven runs, coasting to a 7-1 victory. Bourbon moved to 4-0 on the fall season with the win and Kingston fell to 0-10 with the loss.
Garrett Wallis started on the mound for the Warhawks and threw 68 pitches in 4 2/3 innings, striking out eight Cougars. Emmett Jones came on in relief of Wallis and threw 2 shutout innings in 42 pitches, whiffing five out of the eight Kingston hitters he faced.
The Warhawks walked a whopping 15 times at the plate, and every player walked at least once besides lead off hitter Anson Hormann, who made up for it with two base hits and two runs scored. Chase Bouse walked three times and scored, Jones walked twice, singled and scored, Jonathan Poole walked twice and scored and Jaden Booker and Allan Studeny each walked twice.
