The Cuba Free Press reached out to all the candidates participating in the upcoming April 7 Cuba and Bourbon municipal elections who are running opposed with an opportunity to share with the citizens.
Incumbents for five of Cuba’s seats, including Mayor Kevin Copling, Alderman Ward 1 (two-year term) Harold Halbert, Alderman Ward 1 (one-year term) Ray Mortimeyer, Alderman Ward 2 (two-year term) Richard Hewkin and Alderman Ward 3 (two-year term) Joyce Hartzell, have reached the end of their term and all have filed for reelection.
For the mayoral race, incumbent Copling is running against current Ward 2 Alderman Pitts Lesesne. In Ward 1 (two-year term), incumbent Halbert is against Louis Raineri. For the Ward 1 (one-year term) seat, Mortimeyer is opposed by Dan Eidson. In Ward 2, incumbent Hewkin is being challenged by Jeremy Rosemann. For the Ward 3 (two-year term) seat, incumbent Joyce Hartzell is up against both Chris Newcom and Ciara Kitchen.
In Bourbon, incumbent Mayor Dave Lafferty is not seeking reelection. For the mayoral seat, current Alderman Ward 1 John Nelson and Sky Huddleston are the opposing candidates.
Each candidate was given the opportunity, free of charge, to submit a 250-word profile, sharing their background and detailing their goals to better inform the community come election day.
Candidates Harold Halbert, Louis Raineri, Richard Hewkin and John Nelson did not participate.
Cuba alderman candidates will be published in next week's edition.
