In the 5000 meter boy’s varsity race, Steelville finished in eighth place as a team and had several standout performances. Landon Rutledge continued his stellar senior season and earned another medal with an eighth-place finish in 18:14. Max Harmon was right behind him and took 64th with a 24:15 time. Jacoby Eaton took 70th with a 26:53 time and Wesley Keymann finished in 71st with a 27:29 to round out the boys varsity team.
In the 5000 meter girls varsity race, Kendall Brinkley led the way for the Lady Cardinals and earned a medal with a 24:13 time, which was good for 19th place. Lydia Smelser took 29th with a 25:07 time, Elizabeth Warden finished 55th with a 27:48 time and Stormee Yates took 64th with a 30:12 time.
Steelville was scheduled to compete in the Farmington Invitational on Oct. 18, but the meet was canceled, due to the rain. The Cardinals then hosted the Gasconade Valley Conference on Oct. 21 at Steelville City Park, which will be detailed in next week’s paper. Steelville will then compete in district competition on Nov. 1 in Linn.
