As the cost of video streaming services skyrockets, people are discovering one of the best resources for streaming content is their local public library. As of February 1, Crawford County residents can now access more than 33,000 popular, entertaining, fun and educational films and TV shows for at no cost, and without ads, all courtesy of the Crawford County Library District. With a valid library card, members of the community can enjoy thousands of hours of quality content with Kanopy, the streaming platform from OverDrive, by downloading the app or accessing via browser at https://crawfordcounty.kanopy.com/.

“We are excited to be able to offer this new service to our local patrons,” said CCLD Director Amy England. “This is one more way our county library district can provide resources at no cost to our community members.”

With their library cards, Crawford County Library District’s Kanopy users can enjoy entertaining films, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films, bingeable TV series and educational videos on Kanopy. Films currently available including Molli and Max in the Future, The Beauty of Blackness, The Dawn Wall as well as TV shows such as Luther, Alone: Frozen and Blackshore. There are also a number of timely movies available for Black History Month – Daughters of the Dust, Selma, Dreamgirls, Ganja & Hess, Anita; for Valentine’s Day – Pride and Prejudice, Anora, Cruel Intentions, The Worst Person in the World, Grace of Monaco, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and for Fantasy Films in February – The Librarians, Ghosts, Labyrinth, Suspiria, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Problemista. Families can also watch Kanopy Kids content, a curated collection of movies and shows for children.

At the beginning of each month, community members with a valid library card will automatically receive 25 digital tickets on their account to use that month. Tickets not used during the month do not roll over. Each title shows the number of tickets required to view the movie or TV show in addition to how many hours in which the patron can watch it.

Featuring zero ads, Kanopy’s platform is available via web browser, as well as on iOS, Android and all major streaming devices including Roku and smart TVs such as Apple TV and Samsung Smart TV. To get started enjoying thousands of films and TV shows, download Kanopy or visit https://crawfordcounty.kanopy.com/.

Library patrons can also access a wide selection of popular digital ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines at no cost, through the Libby library reading app.
