Crawford County Property assessment forms were mailed out on Jan. 1 and are due March 1 to avoid paying a penalty.
Forms can be dropped off or mailed to the Crawford County Assessor’s Office. It is recommended to go inside the post office and get them postmarked before being mailed to avoid penalties. Penalty amounts are based on the total assessed value.
If assessment forms are not submitted by the March 1 deadline, a second notice will be sent.
Forms are pre-printed with items listed from the previous year, and three boxes are provided to show if no property is owned or if any changes were made.
Property listed is based on all personal property owned on Jan. 1 of the tax year, so there is space to list any new property purchased, and if something listed was sold, draw a line through it.
New residents will need to provide their previous year’s tax receipt from the county they moved from, but the assessor’s office can sometimes look it up online if necessary. Providing a driver’s license is also recommended, a document that reflects their new address within the county.
Businesses need to provide their location and registered company name.
