Cuba, Bourbon cross country seasons end in districts

CUBA – The Cuba and Bourbon high school cross country seasons came to an end on Nov. 1 at the Class 2 and 3 and District 3 meets in Linn. The Top 30 finishers from each race advance to the State Championship meet on Nov. 8 in Columbia, but the Wildcats and Warhawks didn’t have a runner qualify. 

Bourbon had three runners compete in the Class 2 District 3 Meet. Warhawk seniors Jennie Paz Martinez and Brett Payne didn’t compete in the race, as their cross country careers ended in the Gasconade Valley Conference Meet. Drawe Froning was the first Warhawk to finish at 22:38.20 and took 106th place. Paul Studdard clocked in at 25:12.10 in in 130th place and Brandon Whitburn at 27:16.10 and took 135th place. 

Cuba High School had five Wildcats compete in the Class 3 District 3 boy’s meet. The Wildcats finished in 21st as a team. 

Wyatt Littrell ended his promising freshman season as the first Wildcat to finish, with a 22:17.60 in 109th place. Sophomore Gavin Hepperman finished at 24:01 took 130th place with junior Jackson Herwig right behind him at 24:20 in 132nd place. Senior Jaspar Silva wrapped up his career, finishing in 25:04, which was good for 135th and freshman Zaylen Kammer finished at 25:34 in 137th place.

The Lady Wildcats had three runners compete in the Class 3 District 3 girl’s meet. Ella Basham was the first Lady Cat to complete the race, and finished her strong sophomore season with a 23:52.40 time, which was good for 41st place. Seniors Cadynce Basham and Patricia Hardcastle finished their cross country careers in 55th and 72 with 24:35 and 26:39 times, respectively.
