Cuba High School’s cross country varsity girls team had a strong showing in the 5000 meter race at the Oct. 14 Owensville Cross Country Invitational. The group was led by Ella Basham, who received a 24:20 time, which earned a 22nd place finish. Patricia Hardcastle clocked in at 26:01, taking 37th place. Cadynce Basham ran a 26:39 and finished in 44th place.

From Bourbon High School, Jennie Paz Martinez was the only member of the girls team to compete in that race at the Owensville Cross Country Invitational, finishing 69th with a 35:54 time. Jaspar Silva and Jackson Silvia ran in the 5000 meter boys varsity race and finished in 66th and 67th with 25:24 and 25:31 times, respectively.

Bourbon didn’t have runners compete in the varsity race, but had four runners participate in the 5000 meter JV race. Drawe Froning continued his solid season, clocking in at 25:33, which was good for 32nd place. Paul Studdard took 36th with a 26:40 time, Brandon Whitburn finished 42nd with a 29:07 time and Jonathan Poole took 47th with a 31:39 time.

Three Wildcats ran in the JV race. Zaylen Kammer took 22nd with a 24:02 time, Gavin Heppermann finished in 26th with a 24:28 time and Nash Williamson took 49th with a 33:39 time.

Cuba Middle School’s team had nine runners compete in the 1.6 mile race. Tristan Cross was the first Wildcat to finish, and took 32nd with a 14:46 time. Ryan Ray finished in 36th with a 15:01 time, Matthew Herwig took 47th with a 16:34 time, Cole Elsey finished in 82nd with a 18:11 time and Emory Bast took 97th with a 19:48 time to round out the top-five Wildcat finishers. Lillian Yates was the only Lady Wildcat to compete in the race and took 48th with a 21:28 time.

Bourbon didn’t have any runners compete in the middle school race.

Both teams competed in the Gasconade Valley Conference Meet on Oct. 21 in Steelville, which will be detailed in next week’s edition. That will be Bourbon’s last meet of the season. Cuba Middle School will compete on Oct. 25 in the Missouri Middle School State Championships. Cuba High School’s team will compete in Districts on Nov. 1 in a location that is still to be determined.
