Cuba, Bourbon golf teams compete in Viburnum GVC meet

For the second time in an eight day period, Cuba and Bourbon’s High School golf teams competed in a Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) meet. After battling it out in Belle on April 8, teams from Cuba, Bourbon, Steelville and Belle traveled to Viburnum on April 14 to play 18 holes of golf. 

Belle earned first place as a team and had the top-four individual performances. Steelville finished in second place and Cuba took third. Belle sophomore Kelhen Struemph shot a 77 to win the individual portion of the meet. 

Wildcat sophomore Cole Kelemen earned fifth place after shooting an 89. Fellow sophomore Kye Williams finished just behind his teammate, shooting a 98 to earn seventh place. Steelville senior Nick Hoff shot a 90 to take in sixth place in between Kelemen and Williams. 

Cuba senior Jodie Kelemen shot a 110 and freshmen Makayla Wells and Addison McGinnis shot a 133 and a 143, respectively, to round out the Wildcat performances. 

Bourbon sophomore Emmett Jones was the Warhawk’s top finisher, shooting a 96 to earn eighth place. Trevor Robertson shot a 114 and Garrett Wallis shot a 116 to cap the Warhawks competitors. 

Bourbon and Cuba’s junior varsity athletes are scheduled to compete against each other on April 27 at Holiday Ranch Golf Course in Cuba. Both teams will return to the same course on May 4 to compete against Viburnum, Steelville and Belle in the final GVC match of the season.
