CUBA — Cuba High School football team’s regular season came to an end on Oct. 25 when they traveled to Perryville for their lone Saturday day game of the season.
After taking the two-plus hour bus ride, the Wildcats came out flat and trailed 42-0 at Halftime. Cuba didn’t lay down and played even with Perryville, 14-14, in the second half. But that wasn’t enough to come back as the Wildcats fell 56-14.
The Wildcat’s offense was led by junior running back Ethan Noltkamper and senior wide receiver Cameron Carnal. Noltkamper leads the team in rushing and total yards on the season and added to that with 112 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Carnal finished with 112 receiving yards and made the highlight play of the game for Cuba in the third quarter when he caught a pass from Jesse Shireman over two Perryville defenders and took it to the house for a 74 yard touchdown.
Damion Ferguson, Luke Whittaker and Noah Halbert each had a pancake block, knocking a defender off their feet during action.
The Wildcats now enter postseason play and will play Hermann in the first round of the Class 2 Missouri State Tournament on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. at Hermann High School.
Cuba finished the regular season with a 2-6 record, not counting the homecoming game forfeit, and will have a favorable matchup against Hermann, who finished with a 1-8 record. Hermann’s only victory of the season came against winless Owensville. Wildcat wins came over Linn and Bayless with Hancock, who each finished the season with one win.
