Cuba Fest takes place October 18 and 19 in Recklein district

The 63rd Annual Route 66 Cuba Fest will be held October 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and October 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the historic Recklein district on Smith Street in Cuba.

There is something for the whole family to enjoy, starting on Saturday with the Eastern Star breakfast from 7-11 a.m., flag ceremony recognizing veterans, car cruise-in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and arts and crafts vendors. There will be a kids corner with a petting zoo, bounce house, carnival games and fall crafts.

The Cuba Arts Council will have a wine tent and the Taste of Cuba will offer great food from local restaurants and food trucks. The Cuba Senior Center will be hosting a quilt show. The Crawford County Historical Museum and the Recklein Memorial Library will be open.

The chili cook-off begins at 11 a.m. with someone winning the silver ladle.

Tickets will be available for the trolley ride for the 17th Annual Cemetery Tour in Kinder Cemetery.

There will be contests and events throughout the weekend including the flag raising ceremony, patriotic dog parage, hog calling contest, horseshoeing demonstration, swing dance demonstration and much more.

Something new this year is the street dance Saturday evening from 4:30-7 p.m. with the Starlighters – Swinging Big Band.

On Sunday, the Cuba United Methodist Church will be serving turkey sandwiches at the Senior Center. The Battle of the Bands and Boots will take place Sunday afternoon between the Cuba High School Band and Drill Team and Cuba High Alumni Band and Alumni Drill Team.
