The Cuba High School cross country team hosted its annual meet on Oct. 1 at Hood Park.
The Wildcats’ varsity girls team had a strong performance in the 5k race with three runners earning medals. Ella Basham led Cuba with a sixth place finish, running a 23:41.2 time. Patricia Hardcastle took 13th with a 25:29.8 time and Cadynce Basham finished 14th with a 25:56.3 time. Jennie Paz Martinez was the only Bourbon runner in the race and took 27th, with a 36:32 time.
Cuba’s varsity boys team had two runners compete in the 5k race. Jackson Herwig took 23rd with a 24:12.3 time and Jaspar Silva finished 26th with a 25:13.5 time. Bourbon didn’t have a runner compete in the race.
The Wildcats’ boys JV team had three medalist performances in the 5k race. Wyatt Littrell was the first Cuba runner to finish, and took fourth place with a 22:08 time. Gavin Heppermann took eighth with a 22:46.4 time and Zaylen Kammer finished 11th with a 23:06.6 time. Drawe Froning earned a medal for Bourbon, finishing 10th with a 22:58.9 time. Paul Studdard and Brandon Whitburn finished 16th and 17th, respectively for the Warhawks.
Cuba’s middle school boys team had ten runners compete in the 1.6 mile race. Tristan Cross led the team with a 16th place finish and 11:22 time. Ryan Ray took 19th, Matthew finished 26th, Gage Baker finished 27th and Cole Elsey took 37th to round out the top five Wildcats.
Bourbon had eight runners compete in the race and had three top-20 finishers. Elijah Frederick took sixth with a 10:34.6 time, Brody Delmont finished 12th with a 11:08 time and Joshua Gibbs took 15th with a 11:18.9 time.
The Wildcats’ middle school girls team had five runners compete in the 1.6 mile race. Elsie Rutz took 7th and medaled with a 12:30.8 time. Harper Maxwell finished 28th, Ada Mabe took 39th, Nora Jones finished 40th and Lillian Yates took 41st. Bourbon had six runners compete in the race, led by Eva Wertich who took sixth place with a 12:26.7 time. Mina Williams finished 16th, Amiyah Vineyard took 21st, Alaina Evans finished 26th, Lily Ransom took 30th, Auria Williams finished 31st and Lily Negretti took 32nd for the Warhawks.
Cuba competed in the Hermann Invitational Cross Country meet on Oct. 7 which will be detailed in next week’s paper. The Wildcats will run in the Owensville Invitational on Oct. 14. Bourbon will compete next on Oct. 11 at the Potosi Cross Country Invitational.
