The Cuba High School softball team traveled to California on Sept. 26 and 27 to compete in the California Turf War Tournament. The winless Lady Wildcats continued to struggle this season and lost 31-0 in three innings on Friday against the St. Elizabeth Hornets.
The Hornets scored 20 runs in the first inning and ten runs in the second to overwhelm Cuba. The Lady Wildcats were no-hit, and Shannon Black was the only player to reach base, drawing a walk in her only at bat.
The Lady Wildcats didn’t fare much better against Boonville, falling 25-1 in four innings. Boonville was up 6-0 after two innings but exploded for eight runs in the third and 11 in the fourth innings to balloon its lead.
Cuba scored its only run in the fourth inning on a run batted in from Gabby Garms. Jerri Forester, Kaylynn Wilkerson and Teryn Vass each added a hit for the Lady Wildcats.
Cuba traveled to Hermann to take on the Lady Bearcats on Sept. 29, which will be detailed in next week’s paper. The Lady Wildcats will play games at Steve Schuette Field on Oct. 1 and 2 against Russellville and Dixon, respectively.
