Delisle, Damo named homecoming king and queen

Ethan Delisle and Trishelle Damo were named Steelville High School’s homecoming king and queen during a ceremony held Friday night at Steelville High School.

The homecoming ceremony took place between the junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball games against Owensville and was emceed by Student Council President Bella Cardoni and Student Council President-Elect Will Bailey. Steelville alumni in attendance were recognized as part of the festivities. A pair of freshmen, sophomores and juniors were up for the honors, and the winners were selected by judges Kim Zeiss, Terri Lea and Billie McPherson.

Delisle is the 18-year-old son of Tony Murphy with honorable mentions going to his aunt Trisha, uncle David, and aunt Shelly. He is planning on throwing for the track team at SHS. After high school, Delisle plans on attending Ozark Technical School to pursue an associates degree in precision machining. After obtaining a two-year degree he plans to transfer to Missouri State University to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering. In Delisle’s free time, he likes to read, play rocket league, lift weights, and hang out with friends.

Damo is the 17-year-old daughter of David and Trisha Damo. Damo is a member of FCCLA, track and the basketball and volleyball manager. After high school, she plans to attend OTC and get her associates degree in nursing then obtain a BSN in RN nursing. Damo would like to specialize in pediatrics and work in the NICU. In Damo’s spare time she likes to read, listen to music, and spend time with friends and family.

The retiring king and queen, Gabe Earney and Jazmyn Hurd, were on hand to pass the torch to Delisle and Damo and were assisted by prince and princess Carter Gerren and Elissa Turnbough.

Gerren is the son of Eddie and Mariah Gerren and is in first grade at Steelville Elementary. Gerren’s favorite subjects in school are art, reading, computers, and PE. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and baseball. When he grows up, he plans to become an astrophysicist while living close to his parents for as long as possible.

Turnbough is the daughter of Heath and Jessie Turnbough and is in first grade at Steelville Elementary. Her favorite school activities are writing time and center time. She also enjoys playing at recess with all her friends. In her free time, she loves to play in Steelville Sports Club basketball and coach pitch leagues. She is also active at First Baptist Church with their Kids Connection Program. When she grows up, she wants to be a veterinarian so she can take care of all the cats and dogs.

Junior king and queen candidates were Owen Rutledge and Lydia Smelser.

Rutledge is the son of Cody and Autumn Rutledge. He competes for the SHS cross country, wrestling, and track. He is also a member of the fishing club. After high school, Rutledge plans to go to college and obtain a business degree. He is also an entrepreneur as he has started his own business called Big Rut’s Jigheads. In his spare time, he likes to go fishing, hunting, and playing sports with friends and family. He also likes to work with metal and woodworking.

Smelser is the daughter of Vance and Jenna Smelser and Natasha Smelser. She is a member of the SHS cross country wrestling, and track team. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her family and friends and going shopping. After high school, she plans to attend college and medical school to be a neurosurgeon.

Sophomore king and queen candidates were Caden Collinson and Abigail Schlueter.

Collinson is the son of Steven and Rebecca Collinson. He is a member of the SHS baseball team. In his free time he enjoys playing baseball. After high school he plans to play baseball in college while pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.

Schlueter is the daughter of Tom and Lisa Schlueter. She is a member of the volleyball and softball teams for SHS. She is also a member of FBLA, Math and Science Club, Science Olympiad, and Student Council. In her free time, Schlueter enjoys reading her Bible, attending youth group, playing volleyball, and hanging out with her friends and family. After high school, she plans to further her education by getting a degree in business.

Freshmen king and queen candidates were Silas Evans and Alexis Cassidy.

Evans is the son of Jason and Honor Evans. He is a member of the SHS basketball and wrestling teams. He is also a member of FFA. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, being outside, playing video games, hanging out with friends, and trying new things. After high school Evans plans to go to culinary school and obtain a degree to become a culinary chef.

Cassidy is the daughter of Ashley Martin and Nick Cassidy. She is a member of Art Club, Scholar Bowls, Math and Science Club, poms and cheerleading team. She is also the freshman class president. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, drawing, painting, hanging out with her mom and going on hikes. 

After high school, Cassidy plans to attend college and pursue a degree in the healthcare field because she enjoys helping people.

Students celebrated homecoming all week with Spirit Week, dressing in a different theme each day leading up to Friday night’s ceremony. Students also enjoyed the annual homecoming dance on Friday night following the buzzer of the boys’ varsity basketball game.
