Dolores “Dee” Jean (Macovey) Miller was born on Feb. 29, 1940 in Morgantown, West Virginia to William Thomas Macovey and Mabel Dolores Mueller Macovey and passed away June 13, 2026 at the age of 86 years.
Dee graduated from St. Theresa’s Academy in 1958 and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Joseph’s College of Nursing and later received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Belleville Area College. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
She married Charles “Chuck” Linwood Miller Sr. on December 28, 1960.
She helped establish the first skilled care unit at Phelps County Regional Medical Center and retired in 2002 as a Nursing Supervisor. She was a member of the Missouri League for Nursing and Missouri Republican Women.
A supporter of President Donald Trump, she embraced social media well into her 80s and built a following of more than 4,000 people on X (formerly Twitter). She enjoyed keeping up with current events, engaging in spirited discussions and connecting with people from across the country.
Dee enjoyed reading books of all kinds, completing crossword puzzles and keeping her mind active. She loved Christmas, Hallmark movies, shopping trips, classic country music, Elvis Presley and especially Freddy Fender.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Linwood Miller Sr.; parents, William Thomas Macovey and Mabel Dolores Mueller Macovey; siblings, Millie Macovey, David Macovey and John Paul Macovey; daughter, Melissa “Mitzi” Birkner; and grandchildren, Kati and Donovan; and great great grandson, Colter James Walker.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Macovey Harmon of Belleville, Illinois; children, Mary Beth Stroup of Sullivan, Missouri, Charles “Chuck” L. Miller and wife Christi of Olean, Missouri, William “Billy” Orville Miller and wife Lisa of Salem, Missouri, Rebecca “Becky” Ellen Abbott and husband Brian of New Haven, Missouri and Theodore “Teddy” Jason Miller and wife Sara of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Amy (Stanley), Brittany (Austin), Dustin (Morgan), Jamie (Jason), Dani, Abby, Ethan, Jacob (Amber), Mackenzie (Adam), Henry and Vivienne; 12 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with sons, Chuck and Billy Miller officiating.
Burial in the St. James Cemetery with pallbearers Dustin Miller, Ethen Miller, Toby Hayes, Jacob Wilson, Adam Homeyer and Jason Gilmore. Logan Walker served as honorary pallbearer.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
