Jason L. Voyles, 44, of Potosi, was arrested at 3:33 p.m. on March 21 on allegations of a class D felony of third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and an E class felony of first-degree property damage.
Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Trooper Gary Piccard, and Sergeant Jesse Henson and Deputy Alex Coleman from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office had responded to a careless and imprudent driving complaint, where they found the described vehicle, a gray Toyota Tacoma, disabled near the 200 block of Highway TT.
Voyles was standing next to the vehicle, and according to Coleman’s probable cause statement, Piccard determined he would place Boyles under arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and was placed in double-locking wrist restraints.
“As I was escorting Voyles to Trooper Piccard’s patrol vehicle, Voyles leaned to the side, headbutting the Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle. As a result, the Missouri State Highway Patrol (vehicle) sustained damage to the right front fender,” Coleman wrote.
Since it was equipped with a cage, in the right rear of the vehicle, Coleman was instructed by Henson to place Voyles in the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. Voyles also headbutted and damaged that vehicle as well.
“Voyles was transported to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital in an effort to obtain a fit for confinement,” Coleman wrote.
Henson, in his probable cause statement, said that he waited in the hospital room with Voyles when he became agitated, screamed profanities and spewed saliva. Voyles, it is alleged, proceeded to then kick Henson in the abdominal/groin area.
He is currently being held in the Crawford County Jail and is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. on March 23 before Judge Patrick J. Horsefield’s 42nd Circuit Court in Crawford County.
