CUBA – The Cuba High School volleyball team’s season ended on Oct. 23, but awards in recognition of their efforts are still coming.
Senior Emma Harris and juniors Brooke Echols and Jaylen Haffer earned All-Conference selections in the Gasconade Valley Conference. Cuba tied Belle for the most recognized recipients, with each school earning three All-Conference selections.
The Lady Wildcats won 19 matches this season, the program’s most since 2017–18, when it triumphed in 20 games. Cuba was able to increase their total wins by 12 after claiming seven victory matches last season during head coach Makayla Coleman and JV coach Cami Myers’ first seasons. The GVC hasn’t announced Coach of the Year, but Coleman is expected to be a favorite for the award.
Harris, who will continue her volleyball career at Missouri Valley College next fall, capped off her career with her team’s most successful season in her tenure. The senior recorded over 500 career digs and was a consistent contributor for the Lady Cats, rarely stepping off the court. She recorded 360 digs, 164 receptions and 141 kills during her senior season.
Echols was the glue in the middle line that held Cuba together throughout the year. She led the Lady Cats with 302 assists, consistently setting her teammates up for success.
“When she (Echols) was in, a ball never hit the ground because she was all over the place. She can also swing in the front row when needed,” Coleman said.
Haffer, who was already named as a first team All-District Athlete, was a dominant front line player for the Lady Cats throughout the season. She led Cuba with 192 kills, 140 blocks and 2.4 kills per set.
“(Haffer) can play great anywhere on the court and has greatly improved with her serving this year,” Coleman said.
