Filing opens Tuesday in Crawford County

Candidacy filings for the General Municipal Elections on April 7, 2026, are opening at 8 a.m. on Dec. 9 and closing at 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, with many local entities throughout Cuba and Bourbon advertising open seats. The last day to register to vote or to change voter registration for this election is Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The last day to file as a write-in candidate is Friday, March 27, 2026. 

The Bourbon Board of Aldermen has three seats up for re-election, including the mayoral seat, a two-year term currently held by Dave Lafferty, Alderman Ward 1, occupied by John Nelson, and Alderman Ward 2 (two-year terms).

Bourbon R-1 School District has three open seats on the Board of Education. The roles up for election are Vice President Sean Kaysinger, Board Member Stephen Waldron and Board Member Ryan Cole. Each position carries a three-year term. 

The Cuba City Council has several seats open, including the two-year mayoral seat, currently held by Kevin Copling. Aldermen seats are two-year terms and include Aldermen Ward 1, occupied by Harold Halbert, Aldermen Ward 2, occupied by Tory Hutson and Aldermen Ward 3, occupied by Joyce Hartzell. The police chief position is a four-year term, currently held by Doug Shelton. City Collector serves a two-year term, and is currently occupied by Kim Roedemeier. 

Cuba Fire: Seeking new candidates for the Board of Directors. 

Crawford County R-2 School District has three seats open on the Board of Education. Each position carries a three-year term. Seats are currently held by Cheri Schuette, Tammi Palmer and Jennifer Moreland.

North Crawford County Ambulance District has two new Board of Directors roles open. One is Don Mizell of Cuba serving District 1, and serving District 4 is Mike Delashmit of Bourbon.

The Village of Leasburg Board of Trustees has three positions, each with a two-year term. Seats are currently occupied by Carolyn “Sue” Prince, Shirley Williams and Linda Soules.
