H. Dale Thompson of Steelville, Missouri was born on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 1945 in Mill Spring, Missouri to Spirel Edmundson Thompson and Cleo Edna (nee Frye) Thompson and passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Some of his favorite childhood memories were riding horses and hunting for Indian artifacts with his brother, Elvin. He attended school in Mill Spring and graduated from Piedmont High School with the Class of 1963.

He began working at Brown Shoe in 1962 as a leather top piece cutter and spent the next 33 years working his way from assistant foreman to assistant superintendent, eventually becoming superintendent of the Steelville plant. After Brown Shoe closed, he worked for Ozark Mountain Technologies until his retirement.

In his younger years, he played guitar with a local band called The Country Four, Plus One. He loved the music of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings.

He married Monica Sue Miner on July 27, 2001 in Steelville, Missouri.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gigging, running his dogs and spending time on the river. He was a member of the Trappers Association and the NRA. He made memories boating on the Gasconade and Missouri Rivers, camping while chasing white bass in Oklahoma and heading to Kansas to lay trout lines for catfish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Spirel and Cleo Thompson; father-in-law, Joe Miner; siblings, Doris (Clarence) Hassell, Lavetta (Ralph) Garrett, Shirley Dietz, Vernon Thompson, Jesse Thompson, Edwin Thompson and Elvin Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Monica Thompson of Steelville, Missouri; children, Renee Thompson of Cuba, Missouri, Rebecca (John) White of Steelville, Missouri and Travis (Terra) Thompson of Amarillo, Texas; mother-in-law, Doshia Miner of Boss, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donna Thompson of Rolla, Missouri, Cecile Thompson of Piedmont, Missouri, Nina (Greg) Beaumont of Greenville, Illinois, Judy (David) Logan of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Gerald (Donna) Miner and Anthony (Sonia) Miner, both of Boss, Missouri and Nancy Miner of Viburnum, Missouri; special niece, Christine (Bart) Stark of Austin, Arkansas; special friend, Zach Sterling of Steelville, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Elias, Eliana, Olive and Ophelia White and Caulin, Banning and Lorelei Thompson; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.

Burial at Wesco Cemetery.
