Thanks in part to a career night by fourth-seeded Waynesville High senior guard Regan Grosvenor, third-seeded host St. James lost 55-33 in the third-place game of the weather-delayed St. James Girls’ Basketball Tournament Friday, Jan. 30 at St. James High School.
Also Friday, top-seeded Norwood held a slim lead most of the way and defeated second-seeded Fatima 52-49 in the championship game while seventh-seeded Southern Boone got past fifth-seeded Steelville 46-41 in the fifth-place game. The seventh-place game between sixth-seeded Licking and eighth-seeded Gateway Christian Academy was not played due to a conflict by Gateway.
The games had been scheduled for Jan. 24 but were postponed due to the weather.
All-Tournament Team: Norwood’s Kalie Chadwell was named tournament MVP. Also on the all-tournament team were St. James junior Payge Kemnitzer, Regan Grosvenor, Steelville’s Jazmyn Hurd, Norwood’s Jayden Chambers and Fatima’s Rylie Wieberg.
Also last week St. James traveled to Jefferson City and lost to Helias Catholic 56-37 Wednesday, Jan. 28.
That left the Lady Tigers with a 7-10 record.
This week St. James was scheduled to host Licking Monday, Feb. 2 and Bunker Wednesday, Feb. 4 then travel to Pacific for conference action Thursday (5 p.m. junior varsity, varsity to follow).

Jan. 30, 3rd-Place Game - Waynesville 55, STJ 33: St. James got off to a strong start, as Kemnitzer fired in nine points in the opening quarter. A 12-foot bank shot by junior guard Adalee Richardson with 1:37 left gave St. James a 13-7 lead. St. James led 15-9 entering the second period.
From then on it was all Regan Grosvenor and Waynesville. St. James was outscored 19-2 in the second period, as Regan Grosvenor fired in 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Waynesville led 28-17 at halftime.
Regan Grosvenor continued to roll up the points in the third quarter, firing in 10 more in the period as St. James trailed 43-27. STJ managed just six points in the final period.
Kemnitzer led St. James with 12 points.
Only three Waynesville players scored, as backing Regan Grosvenor’s career-high 32 points were sophomore forward Alayna Barkley with 12 and Regan’s twin sister, senior Riley Grosvenor, 11.

Jan. 28 - Helias 56, STJ 37: The Lady Tigers struggled for points to open both halves. Helias took a 13-6 lead after the first quarter and led the rest of the way. It was 27-16 at halftime. The Helias Lady Crusaders outscored STJ 11-5 to up their lead to 38-21 going into the fourth quarter.
Kemnitzer and senior Avery Campbell each scored 11 points for the Lady Tigers.
Junior Katherine Rodemann led Helias with 15 points.
Helias won the junior varsity game 51-20.
