Jean Merritt of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 12, 1926 in Cuba, Missouri to Roy and Alice (Carroll) Brewer and passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026 at the age of 99 years. 

When there wasn’t work to be done, she enjoyed dancing with her husband, Albert Merritt, and looking after the animals that she loved so much.

Jean and Albert operated Merrit Cattle Farm and Merritt Sawmill for several years, with her being an integral part of their businesses.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Merritt; parents, Roy and Alice Brewer; brothers, Donald Brewer and Pickney “Bud” Brewer; sisters, Renae Cassidy, Faye Parnell and Marge Senecal; great granddaughter, baby Katherin.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Merritt of Steelville, Missouri and Helen Eoff of Bourbon, Missouri; son, Ron Merritt of Steelville, Missouri; sister, Janet Bialock; granddaughter, Shelby; great grandchildren, Shiann, Morgin and Cole; other relatives and friends.

Memorial visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026 at Mizell Funeral Home & Crematory in Cuba, Missouri.
