Joan Lee (nee Sherman) Reed of Cuba, Missouri was born on May 1, 1935 in Bonne Terre, Missouri to Benjamin P. Sherman and Mary Melinda (nee Morris) Sherman and passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 22 days.

On October 4, 1980, Joan married Ernest George Reed in Florissant, Missouri.

She graduated from Bonne Terre High School, earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Rolla, and later received a master's degree in English from Southwest Missouri State University.

Joan enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting, scrapbooking and traveling. She also loved music and played the dulcimer and autoharp at festivals throughout Missouri, including Old Iron Works Days at Maramec Spring Park. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Melinda Sherman; son, Frank Sherman Davis; husband, Ernie Reed; siblings, Jim Morris, Eldon Morris and Irma Sherman; and brother-in-law, Robert Reed.

She is survived by her son, Charlie Davis and wife Linda K. of Boulder, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Eileen Davis of Lindenhurst, Illinois; step-children, Marty, Rachel, Linda and Michael; grandchildren, Jade Brown, Job Brown, Lindsay Pearson, James Davis, Katie Davis and Hannah Davis; step-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Oak Pointe in Rolla, Missouri. 

Celebration of Life followed at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Oak Pointe in Rolla, Missouri.    

Following Joan’s wishes, the family chose cremation as her final disposition and will have an inurnment at Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Bonne Terre, Missouri at a later date.
