As the holiday season approaches, MU Extension is reaching out to the residents of Phelps County to participate in their November Food Drive being held now until December 1, aimed at alleviating the increased demand faced by local food pantries.

The holiday season is a time for celebration, but it also brings heightened challenges for food pantries. Many families experience financial strain during this period, leading to a surge in requests for assistance. Local food pantries, like St. James Caring Center, often find their shelves bare as they strive to meet the growing needs of the community. Your contributions can directly help ease this burden and ensure that everyone has access to nutritious meals during the holidays.

Donations may be dropped off at the Phelps County Extension Office, 200 N Main St. Ste G-8, Rolla, Missouri or Watson School of Music & the Arts, 300 Parker Ln., St. James, Missouri.

Your donation will benefit:

• Local families facing food insecurity

• Community food pantries in Phelps County

• Programs that provide meals to children and seniors

Most needed items include:

1. Canned meats & soups

2. Canned veggies & fruit

3. Boxed mixes (pancakes & cakes)

For those who prefer to contribute financially, we welcome monetary donations. Every dollar helps provide essential resources to those in need.  Monetary contributions will be used to buy food in bulk using the Caring Center’s tax exempt status. Donations may be sent to: St. James Caring Center, 113 W. Eldon Street, St. James, MO 65559.

This November, let’s come together as a community to support our neighbors and ensure that the spirit of giving shines brightly. For more information, please contact your local MU Extension office at 573-458-6260. Thank you for your generosity and support!
