Summertime is in full swing, and with it comes so many of the things we enjoy: swimming, picnics, camping, and spending time outdoors. It’s also the time of year when we have to keep up with mowing our lawns.
That’s the reason I’m writing this article. It has come to my attention that some residents are mowing their lawns and blowing the grass clippings into the road. While it may seem like a small thing, those clippings can become extremely dangerous for those of us who ride motorcycles. When grass clippings cover the pavement, they can make the road slick—almost like glass—and can cause a motorcycle rider to lose control and go down. Not only is this dangerous, but it is also against the law. God forbid someone should lose control, become seriously injured, or worse. The person responsible for putting those clippings in the roadway could potentially be held liable for the accident.
I know the great citizens of this town love and care for one another. I’ve seen that kindness firsthand, and I certainly wouldn’t want something as simple and preventable as lawn clippings to cause someone to be hurt and leave something like that on your heart.
The solution is simple: When you’re mowing your lawn, please mow in a direction that blows the clippings back into your yard rather than into the roadway. It’s just one little thing we can all do to help keep each other safe. I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Stay safe, and continue to love and care for one another. That sense of community is what has made this the best little place to grow up and to grow old.
Thank you.
