The Steelville High School volleyball team played three matches in four days from Oct. 6 to Oct. 9 and competed in the Belle Varsity Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 11 to cap their busy week.

The Lady Cardinals started the stretch by traveling to Viburnum on Oct. 6 to take on the Lady Blue Jays. The first two sets of the match were highly contested as Steelville won the first set 25-23 and lost the second set 25-23. The Lady Cardinals then hit their stride and took the third set 25-13 and fourth set 25-19 to win the match. Steelville’s JV team handled Viburnum in both sets 25-14 and 25-19 to win the match.

The Lady Cardinals returned home on Oct. 8 to take on Dixon on Senior Night. Steelville seniors Peyton Brooks, Aaleigha Decker, Marley Eilert, Elivia Pryor and manager Trishelle Damo were honored in between the JV and varsity matches with gift baskets and well wishes from their families and the community. Steelville also honored senior cross-country runners Wesley Keyman, Aiden Retkowski, Landon Rutledge and Lydia Collinson. After the festivities ended, the Lady Cardinals celebrated their seniors with a strong performance. Both of Steelville’s teams won in straight sets. The Lady Cardinals’ varsity team won 25-16, 25-17 and 25-22 and its JV team dominated Dixon, winning 25-6 in both sets.

Steelville traveled to Belle on Oct. 9 to compete with the Lady Tigers. The match was a back-and-forth battle throughout. Belle won the first set 25-22. The Lady Cardinals found their form in the second set, winning 25-14. Steelville won the third set 25-21, but couldn’t put away the Tigers. Belle won the fourth set 25-22 and the fifth set 15-9 to defeat Steelville.

The Lady Cardinals traveled to Belle on Oct. 11 to compete in the Belle Varsity Volleyball Tournament. Steelville played Cuba first, and split sets with the Wildcats. Cuba won the first set 25-20 and the Lady Cardinals won the second set 27-25, which was the only set the Lady Wildcats lost all tournament.

Steelville then split sets with North Callaway, earning a trip to the third-place game against Bourbon.

The Lady Cards defeated Bourbon 25-13 and 25-21 to take third place in the tournament.

Steelville is now 12-6-4 on the season heading into Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 matchups against Cuba and Bourbon, respectively. The Lady Cards will play their last regular season matchup on Oct. 16 at Bunker before competing in district-tournament play. Steelville earned a first-round bye in the Class 2 District 8 tournament and will play the winner of Conway and Dixon on Oct. 23.
