BOURBON – Bourbon High School’s girls’ basketball team hosted Valley Caledonia on Jan. 12, two days after the Lady Warhawks defeated Grandview on the final day of the Battle in Bourbon Tournament.

The Lady Hawks defeated Valley Caledonia in convincing fashion to go to 8-7 on the season and will have over a week off until their next game on Jan. 20 in Kingston. Bourbon’s scheduled game on Jan. 16 versus Viburnum was cancelled. The Lady Warhawks will host Rolla Sr. High Home School at 5 p.m. on Jan. 22 and will play in Steelville on Jan. 27. Bourbon’s win over Valley is detailed below.

Jan. 12 vs. Valley Caledonia

After giving up close to 53 points per game in the Battle in Bourbon Tournament, Devon Payne’s team came out inspired on the defensive end against Valley Caledonia. Bourbon gave up just two points in the first quarter and got out to an 11-2 after the first frame. Both teams played evenly in the second frame, as the Lady Warhawks scored nine compared to Valley’s seven and Bourbon took a 21-9 lead into halftime. Bourbon’s offense came to life in the third quarter, thanks in large part to senior Kaitlin King’s scorching shooting. King drained a trio of three-pointers and made a close basket to score 11 of Bourbon’s 17 points in the frame. The Lady Hawks took a commanding 38-16 lead into the fourth quarter before its defense sealed the game. Bourbon allowed just two points in the final frame, bookending its two points allowed in the first, to propel the Lady Warhawks to a dominant 48-18 victory for their eighth victory of the season.

King finished with 13 points, which was tied for the team-high on the evening. Kinzey Waldron also netted 13 points, and did her damage on a trio of three’s and a pair of two’s. Savanna Vance also got in on the three-point action, and knocked down a pair of shots from deep and a free throw to finish with seven points. Hayden Terry made a trio of baskets from close range to score six, Kinzii Withorn scored all four of points in the fourth quarter, Ella Biles added three points and Bree Bouse scored two as seven Lady Warhawks reached the scoresheet.
