The Bourbon High School volleyball team had a busy week, playing three matches in four days on Sept. 30, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 against Plato, Dixon and Kingston, respectively.

The Lady Warhawks traveled to Plato on Sept. 30 to take on the Eagles. Bourbon’s JV team played first and handled Plato, winning both sets 25-20 and 25-9. The Lady Warhawk’s varsity team didn’t have the same success, and fell to the Eagles 28-16, 25-22 and 25-12 in straight sets.

Bourbon returned home on Oct. 2 to battle Dixon on “black out” night where fans were encouraged to wear all black. The Lady Warhawks were able to use the support from its home crowd to their advantage, and both JV and varsity teams put on strong performances.

Bourbon’s JV began the night by winning both sets in convincing fashion, 25-11 and 25-10 to earn the victory. The Lady Warhawk’s varsity team also swept Dixon, winning 25-20, 25-17 and 25-12 to the delight of the large crowd.

The Lady Warhawks then traveled to Kingston on Oct. 3 to battle the Lady Cougars. Bourbon’s JV team continued their strong play and won both sets 25-22 and 25-18 to win the match.

The Lady Warhawks’ varsity team found themselves in a highly contested matchup. Bourbon won a close first set 25-23 before winning 25-11 in the second set. But the Lady Warhawks couldn’t put the Lady Cougars away as Kingston won the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-23 to push the match to a fifth and final set. Kingston seized the momentum and won the fifth set 15-10 to win the match.

The Lady Warhawks then hosted New Haven on Oct. 6 and traveled to Belle on Oct. 7, which will be detailed in next week’s edition.

Bourbon will travel to Viburnum on Oct. 9 before competing in the Belle Varsity Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 11.
