The St. James High School volleyball team opened its season by finishing in third place at the Bourbon Tournament Saturday, Aug. 29.

In its opening match the Lady Tigers lost to host Bourbon 25-19, 25-9. Junior Aubrey Lind had six points, two digs and four assists for STJ.

St. James bounced back to sweep past Laquey 25-9, 25-11. Sophomore Ella Marcee had three kills, a block and four aces and Lind got eight aces.

The Lady Tigers fell to Plato 25-13, 15-17. Marcee had three kills and three blocks; sophomore Chloee Bolte three blocks, and freshman Leah Adams two blocks.

And in the third-place match St. James knocked off Laquey 25-17, 25-11. Lind finished with seven assists and four aces while junior Seble Stutzman got four aces and three digs and freshman Amira Jones four kills.

“Overall it was a good day,” said St. James head coach Andrea Otto. “We had more unforced errors than we’d like, but we learn from those, set goals and move on. Our front row showed up and had some good, timely blocks.”

This week St. James is to play at Salem Tuesday and host Rolla Thursday (4:30 p.m.).
