Ending the week with a victory, the St. James High School volleyball squad defeated Chamois 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19) in a varsity-only contest Friday, Oct. 2 at Chamois.
Earlier in the week St. James lost at home to Cuba 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 29 and in the Hermann Tournament Monday, Sept. 28 lost three matches - to Pacific 2-0 (25-5, 25-17), to Washington 2-0 (25-9, 25-8) and to New Haven 2-0 (25-10, 25-16).
The Lady Tiger JV team also lost to Cuba 2-0.
Against Chamois, sophomore Alyssa Gill had seven aces and 13 assists for St. James while junior Brynlee Costoplos had 14 kills; freshman Leah Adams 10 kills, one block and three aces, and junior Aubrey Lind 12 digs and nine assists.
Against Cuba, Lind got six aces; junior Layla Beck one block; junior Seble Stutzman six digs, and sophomore Anslee Stubblefield and Costoplos each had a kill.
In the Hermann Tournament, Gill had six aces; sophomore Ella Marcee eight kills; Lind five assists; freshman Amira Jones and Adams each had two blocks, freshman Myrna Engelbrecht seven digs, and Lind and Stutzman six digs each.
This week the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at Linn Monday, host Union Tuesday and play at New Haven Thursday (5:30 p.m.).
