The sixth-seeded St. James High volleyball team saw its season end in the first round of the Missouri Class 3 District 9 Tournament, falling to third-seeded Owensville 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 21.
The Lady Tigers end the season with a 11-22-1 record.
In the other District 9 first-round match, fifth-seeded Cuba shut out fourth-seeded Salem 3-0.
In the semifinals Thursday, Oct. 23, top-seeded Sullivan swept Cuba 3-0 while second-seeded St. Clair swept past Owensville 3-0.
In the championship match Monday, Oct. 27 Sullivan was to play St. Clair.
Philyaw ties for 35th at Class 2 State
St. James senior Ella Philyaw tied for 35th overall in the Class 2 State Tournament, held at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.
Sara Kolar of Maplewood-Richmond Heights was Class 2 individual state champion, shooting 7-over-par 77-74-151.
Philyaw tied for 35th with 103-95-198.
Eldon won the Class 2 team title with 758 while John Burroughs was second with 772 and Strafford third with 788.
