The St. James High girls’ soccer team placed second in the Owensville Dutchgirls’ Tournament, held last week.
Sullivan captured the tournament championship of the round-robin event while St. James was second, Mountain View Liberty third and Owensville fourth.
The Lady Tigers opened by falling to Sullivan 2-1 Wednesday, April 29. Freshman Elainah Apollo scored on a penalty kick for STJ against Sullivan.
St. James then beat Owensville 4-1 Thursday, April 30. Junior Vivi Parsons had two goals for St. James, on assists by junior Lillian Snelson and senior Ava Snyder, and STJ got solo goals from Snyder and senior Sophie Deluca. Junior Lily Davis also had an assist.
And in the third-place game St. James shut out Liberty 1-0, with Snyder getting the game-winning goal. Senior Baylee Jones was in goal for St. James.
That left St. James with a 7-10 record.
This week the Lady Tigers were scheduled to play three home games, against St. Clair Monday, Blair Oaks Tuesday and Dixon Thursday (5 p.m. start).
