BOURBON — Bourbon High School volleyball team’s season ended on Oct. 23 in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 6 Tournament after falling to number-one seeded Hermann.
Bourbon lost in straight sets 13-25, 12-25 and 5-25 to end its season with a 15-14-2 record. Hermann then played Linn in the district finals on Oct. 27.
The Lady Warhawks showed resilience and mental fortitude to get to the semifinals. Bourbon began postseason play on Oct. 21 when they traveled to Hermann to compete against Belle High School. The fifth-seeded Warhawks had lost to fourth-seeded Belle in their first three matchups of the season. But the fourth matchup was different as Bourbon came out with a different intensity and belief, which increased throughout the match.
The Lady Warhawks won the first set 25-18 and then won a pivotal back and forth second set 26-24. Bourbon kept its foot on the gas in the third set and won 25-19 to upset Belle and advance to the next round.
Unfortunately for the Lady Warhawks, that would be their last win of the season. Bourbon will lose seniors Kaitlyn King, Kaylee Enke, Piper Sykes and Annalise Gobin but has reinforcements to replace them. Coach Kelli Bailey’s Lady Warhawks will return five upcoming seniors Hailie Kahmke, Allie Sutton, Payton Helton, Leah Negretti and Maddie Blanton and a group of standout sophomores including Lauryn Hercules, Kenzii Withorn and Hayden Terry.
