BOURBON – Bourbon High School’s girls’ basketball team’s won two out of three games this past week after defeating Chamois and Rolla Sr. High Home School in between falling to Steelville. The Lady Warhawks played three games in four days due to the inclement weather rearranging their schedule. Bourbon defeated Chamois on Feb. 2, fell to Steelville on Feb. 4 and topped Rolla Sr. High Home School on Feb. 5. Bourbon’s winning streak reached six before falling to Steelville, but have still won seven out of its last eight games and are 13-8 on the season. All of the Lady Warhawks’ games are detailed below.
Bourbon hosted Crystal City for Pink Out Night and senior night on Feb. 9 for its cheer squad, which will be detailed in next week’s edition. The Lady Warhawks will wrap up its regular season by hosting Cuba on Nov. 13, Lesterville on Nov. 16 and Valley Park on Nov. 19.
Feb. 2 vs. Chamois
The Lady Warhawks continued their strong play against a winless Chamois Lady Pirates team. Bourbon led from the tip off to the final buzzer and used a balanced attack to tame the Lady Pirates. The Lady Warhawks coasted to a 65-21 victory for their sixth-straight win.
All eight Lady Warhawks scored baskets and four players scored in double figures. Bourbon senior point guard Kaitlin King, who has mainly been a pass-first player this season, continuously attacked the rim and scored a game-high 16 points on eight baskets. Kinzii Withorn netted five baskets from close range, knocked down a three-pointer and a free throw to finish with 14 points. Kinzey Waldron drained a pair of three-pointers and finished a trio of baskets at the rim for 12 points. Reese Bell made five baskets in the paint to end her night with 10 points. Bree Bouse scored five, Hayden Terry added four, Ella Biles chipped in three and Savanna Vance scored one to round out the scoring for the Lady Warhawks.
Feb. 4 vs. Steelville
Bourbon’s hopes of continuing its winning streak were quickly dashed when they ran into a Steelville Lady Cardinal team that was dominant from the start. Bourbon struggled getting into its offensive sets as Steelville’s hounding defense repeatedly forced turnovers that turned into points on the other end. Steelville led 29-3 after the first quarter and 37-6 at halftime. Lady Warhawk leading scorer Kinzii Withorn was in foul trouble throughout the game, before eventually fouling out in the third quarter. After scoring at least 48 points during the winning streak, Bourbon was held to just 12 points, and fell 54-12 in Steelville’s last home game of the regular season.
Withorn scored four, Waldron added three, Vance chipped in two and Terry netted two to round out the scoring for the Lady Warhawks. Steelville junior Emeri Perkins scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Cardinals. The Lady Warhawks had a chance to bounce back the following night when they hosted Rolla Sr. High Home School.
Feb. 5 vs. Rolla Sr. High Home School
The Lady Warhawks quickly bounced back on Feb. 5 against the Rolla Lady Royals after falling to Steelville. Bourbon’s zone defense gave up just 13 total points and propelled the Lady Hawks to a stressless 46-13 victory.
Waldron was Bourbon’s only double-figure scorer, and netted a game-high 13 points on six baskets near the rim and a free throw. Biles scored a season-high eight points and Bell also tallied eight points on four baskets. Withorn added seven, King chipped in four and Vance and Bouse each scored three points for the Lady Warhawks.
